This CD project was generously sponsored by Dr. and Mrs. Dennis Ross of Wichita. Proceeds of its sales will go to the organ scholarship fund at Wichita State University so that all interested students will have a better chance at discovering the "King of Instruments".
The Danish Marcussen organ and Wiedemann Hall are intimately connected in that they were both built in 1986. They were built for each other: the organ was built for the hall and the hall for the organ. The resulting ensemble is extraordinary both in acoustics and beauty. It represents a brilliant jewel in the Wichita community, a feast for the eyes and sounds for the soul.
The organ works recorded are a mixture of well-known and not so well-known pieces; some to hear again, others to discover. All show off to its greatest advantage the Marcussen from its richest and most powerful to its softer and sweeter sounds. This is truly an orchestra unto itself with one conductor: the organist!
Special thanks go to Dr. and Mrs. Ross for their continued support and great generosity, to David Cason for his extra "set of ears" during the recording, to Pat Hoskinson, marvelous graphic artist, and to Phil Hoffman, greatly skilled recording engineer. Lastly, many thanks to the College of Fine Arts at WSU and the WSU Foundation, without whose support all this would not be possible.
